Fault management in automated systems

Shashikanth Suryanarayanan

Abstract

Fault management in automated systems has attracted attention over the last couple of decades motivated by demands for safer and reliable automated systems for the future. This talk will discuss one issue in fault management, namely, the problem of Fault Tolerant Control.

The fault tolerant control problem is formulated as a simultaneous stability problem. History and results associated with the simultaneous stability problem will be presented along with design techniques, developed by the author and others, for the design of simultaneously stabilizing controllers. The talk will, finally, discuss the application of these techniques in the design of lateral controllers for automated vehicles.
