The Application of MR (Magneto Rheological) Fluids

Prof. Doyoung Jeon
Dept. of Mechanical Engineering
Sogang University, Korea

Abstract

The MR (Magneto Rheological) fluids have a property that their yield strength changes according to the intensity of applied magnetic fields. There have been many devices using the fluids and they include a controllable damper, variable clutch and so on. The interesting thing for the control engineers is that the intensity of magnetic field changes by the applied current which is manageable by microprocessors. So there can be many areas of application and you may invent your own. In the presentation, some of the research results at the Sogang University are explained and the problems of commercialization will be discussed.

During the presentation, we may discuss on your ideas of application.
